GAO Presents 66 Action Steps to Drive Gov’t Efficiency, Effectiveness

GAOThe Government Accountability Office‘s 2015 Annual Report on facilitating efficiency and effectiveness in government indicates 66 action steps that the White House or Congress can take to address 24 identified opportunity and improvement areas.

In the report published Tuesday, GAO presents 20 actions for 12 areas of overlap, duplication and fragmentation in health, defense, international affairs, information technology and income security programs.

The report also includes 46 actions for 12 areas of potential operational cost savings and revenue enhancement for the Treasury Department.

GAO said the actions seek to mitigate the fiscal imbalance and reduce federal debt by driving efficiency and effectiveness in federal programs and activities.

The agency noted that it will continue to monitor progress in how the executive branch and Congress implement the recommended actions through the Action Tracker tool.
