Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Work has called on the government and industry to work together to address challenges facing U.S. space-based operations, DoD News reported Thursday.

Jim Garamone writes Work said in a speech at the annual Space Symposium Thursday that it is critical that the U.S. sustain space technology in all phases of conflict.

“Space is deeply enmeshed in our force structure and is central to our way of deterring, assuring and warfighting,” he told his audience.

A Defense Department senior defense official told DoD News the private sector could help the government bolster the resilience of space systems against threats.

The official added to the publication that space technology companies also need to think about how they can secure platforms and services they offer to customers.
