The Department of the Navy plans to reassign data center consolidation and cloud migration initiatives to the department’s program executive office for enterprise information systems by July, Federal News Radio reported Friday.

Jason Miller writes John Zangardi, acting DON chief information officer, said the department will transfer oversight of the Data Center and Application Optimization program to PEO-EIS from the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command.

“The DCAO will be responsible for establishing a working model for Navy cloud hosting service brokerage,” Zangardi told Federal News Radio.

He added PEO-EIS and SPAWAR Systems Center Atlantic have partnered with a commercial provider to test a cloud access point intended to facilitate data storage, protection and mobility efforts across the Navy.

Zangardi was also quoted as saying the military service is looking at the feasibility of migrating its enterprise resource planning system to cloud infrastructure.

The branch also looks to transfer multiple data centers using the Next Generation Enterprise Network Intranet under the auspices of PEO-EIS, the report said.
