Mike Howell, deputy program manager for information sharing in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, has called on federal agencies and corporate organizations to understand privacy issues and security risks associated with the adoption of Internet of Things, Fedscoop reported Tuesday.“Everyone of these new extensions of connectivity is going to create new vulnerabilities. Are we ready to secure that?†he asked during a forum hosted Monday by the American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council.
Wyatt Kash writes Howell pointed to five other questions institutions should consider as they prepare to deal with interconnectivity risks in relation to IoT implementation.
Howell urged organizations to identify the shared vision, assess supporting policies and regulations and evaluate the availability of collaborative relationships, community outreach and customer 
relationship management necessary to support IoT adoption, according to the report.
Other federal information technology experts present at the ACT-IAC conference raised questions over the lack of policy framework that would guide data interoperability and ways to evaluate liability risks of gathering data through machine-to-machine communications if things go awry, Kash noted.
