Director of National Intelligence James Clapper has outlined how the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the overall geospatial intelligence community works to support the U.S. intelligence mission.

In written remarks to the GEOINT Symposium, Clapper said NGA supports intelligence integration through its work with other agencies and organizations.

He also noted that NGA is leading efforts in the Intelligence Community’s transparency initiative as the agency releases geospatial data to aid activities such as disaster relief and promotes commercial imagery.

“Commercial imagery is increasingly important to what we do,” Clapper said.

“Because it’s unclassified, we can broadly share commercial imagery, whether we’re making a public diplomacy case against Russia for obfuscating what happened to Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 or helping West Africa coordinate Ebola response.”
