James Trainor Jr., formerly deputy assistant director of the FBI’s cyber operations branch, has been appointed as assistant director of the agency’s cyber division in its Washington headquarters.
Trainor joined the FBI in July 1996 as a special agent and was assigned to the agency’s Chicago division after he completed training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, the FBI said Wednesday.
He later handled counterintelligence operations before his promotion to supervisory special agent in February 2001 at the FBI headquarters.
In March 2003, Trainor took responsibility of national security investigations performed in Connecticut.
He became an assistant special agent in charge of FBI’s Boston division in July 2007 before he was appointed as a special agent in charge of the intelligence division in New York.
Trainor served as a military intelligence officer for the U.S. Army prior to joining the FBI.
