White House Science Panel Unveils Federal IT R&D Assessment Report

research and development RDThe President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology has issued a report on federally funded research and development in information technology to the president and Congress.

The report recommends that the federal government expand educational pipeline to attract and retain talent in IT, the White House said Tuesday.

PCAST also proposes new program component areas to refresh the IT research and development spending categories beginning in the fiscal year 2017.

All eight categories need to be updated every five to six years in order to align with existing IT priorities, according to the report.

The report is focused on cybersecurity, IT and health, big data and data-intensive computing, IT and the physical world, privacy, cyber-human systems, high performance computing, and foundational computing research.
