Danny Marti: White House Seeks Input for Intellectual Property Protection Strategy

1 min read

WhiteHouseThe White House is inviting public feedback on how to promote and protect the U.S.’ intellectual property rights through regulatory, legal and policy approaches.

U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator Danny Marti wrote in a blog post published Tuesday that his office will use collected ideas to shape the federal government’s IP enforcement strategic plan for the next three years.

He said the Obama administration aims to address IP infringement activities that “pose a considerable threat to public health and safety, undermine legitimate business and harm other national interests.”

The Office of the IPEC is also working to assess federal efforts to stop criminal IP offenses such as commercial piracy, trade secret theft and counterfeiting, Marti added.

Marti cited a study that pegs worldwide annual growth rate of counterfeit trade at 22 percent and forecasts the overall value of fake goods to reach $1.8 trillion in 2015.
