Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James noted that decision-making about the service’s resources is one of its biggest leadership challenges in the current budget environment, the Washington Post reported Thursday.
Lillian Cunningham writes that James told the Post the budget uncertainty affects the availability, readiness and modernization of resources to meet mission requirements.
“It causes us to have to plan different programs in a variety of ways because we don’t know how much money we’ll have — and we don’t know when we will know,” James said.
She added in the interview that the Air Force’s initiatives to address budget constraints are focused on efficiency and the exploration of other avenues such as reserve forces and the private sector to meet resource demand.
