Alan Estevez – principal undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics — has highlighted the Defense Department and U.S. Transportation Command’s focus on force readiness and modernization amid tight budgets, DoD News reported Wednesday.
Estevez told the National Defense Transportation Association’s fall meeting in Maryland that DoD and Transcom’s initiative to bolster force structure and preparedness is based on the defense budget foundation, Amaani Lyle reports.
“We’re building off a ‘16 budget that doesn’t exist… and whatever we get in the ‘16 budget is probably going to be lower than that $538 billion,†Esteves told the event.
He said the defense funds could go below sequestration levels in the event of a yearlong stopgap resolution, according to the report.
Estevez also hailed Transcom’s efforts to deploy forces as it continues to focus on acquisitions, innovation and cyber despite uncertainties in the fiscal year 2017-2021 budget plans, DoD News reports.
