Jeh Johnson, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, has urged lawmakers to facilitate information sharing and legally authorize DHS’ Einstein program in an effort to protect government networks from cyber attacks, FierceGovernmentIT reported Tuesday.

Robert Bartley writes Einstein is a DHS-run system that works to monitor and detect network vulnerabilities and intrusions.

Johnson told the House Homeland Security Committee he believes the Einstein 3A platform could help safeguard federal agencies from data breaches like those that occurred at the Office of Personnel Management.

He also commented on cybersecurity agreements signed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Barack Obama in September.

“On the U.S. side, we are prepared to fulfill our commitments,” Johnson said.

“Words must be matched by actions,” he added.
