Jerry McGinn, the Defense Department‘s principal deputy director for manufacturing and industrial base policy, believes DoD can better measure industry’s technology efforts against national security requirements with business intelligence tools, FCW reported Monday.

Sean Lyngaas writes McGinn also recommended that the department adopt a predictive analytics approach to determine key technologies across the defense industrial base.

McGinn noted his office has identified the microelectronics and electronic warfare industries as “fragile” and “critical” sectors due to a lack of producers in these markets, the publication reports.

Separately, DoD acquisition chief Frank Kendall issued a new report that highlights the department’s efforts to save money on key defense programs.

FCW reports the annual Performance of the Defense Acquisition System report also cited a study indicating a link between budget reductions and acquisition costs.
