cybersecurityThe Senate started to discuss the Cyberthreat Information Sharing Act Tuesday and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said he expects to put the bipartisan bill to a vote early next week, Fedscoop reported Tuesday.

Shaun Waterman writes that Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), CISA’s authors, told other lawmakers they considered the surveillance issues raised by privacy advocates on the measure.

Under the new measure, companies would be exempted from any legal liability if they share cyber threat data with other firms and government agencies, Waterman reports.

Among the 22 proposed amendments to CISA that are up for debate include provisions on immunity for user agreement violations and criminal penalties to be imposed on threat actors, according to the report.
