Defense Security Cooperation Agency Director Vice Adm. Joseph Rixey has said the U.S. recorded $46.6 billion in foreign military sales during fiscal year 2015, Defense News reported Sunday.Rixey told the Association of the U.S. Army’s annual meeting in Washington the ongoing fight against the Islamic State organization helped bolster overseas sales of military equipment and weapons, Joe Gould reports.
Helicopters, missiles and the Patriot air and missile defense system are among the top-selling items to military forces outside the U.S., according to the report.
Gould writes some U.S. officials anticipate a possible decline in FMS sales over the next fiscal year.
“Believe it or not, a lot of our partner nations are in the same crunch as we are,†Heidi Shyu, the Army’s lead acquisition executive, told Defense News.
“Their budgets are also coming down, so it’s anticipated their priorities also change, so it’s just an estimate.”
