The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has kicked off a program to explore mathematical frameworks for the development of new technologies that military and civilian agencies can use when they respond to critical situations.DARPA said Friday it also wants new methods to assess and predict complex behavior and interaction of system components through the agency’s Complex Adaptive System Composition and Design Environment initiative.
“We need new design and representation tools to ensure resilience of buildings, electricity, drinking water supply, healthcare, roads and sanitation when disaster strikes,” said John Paschkewitz, a DARPA program manager.
DARPA will hold a proposers day on Dec. 9 in Arlington, Virginia, to discuss the program’s technical objectives with interested parties.
The agency is seeking expertise in applied mathematics, stochastic and non-linear control, battlefield medicine logistics, search-and-rescue platforms and adaptive and resilient urban infrastructure.
