Christopher Kapellas Named Washington Headquarters Services HR Director

Christopher Kapellas, formerly deputy director of the human resources directorate within the Defense Department‘s Washington Headquarters Services organization, has been named HR director for WHS.

Defense Secretary Ashton Carter announced Monday the appointment of Kapellas, who was named deputy director of the HR directorate in March 2013 when he was elected to the Senior Executive Service.

As acting director of the HR directorate since July 27, Kapellas has been responsible for all human resources and personnel security services for the office of the defense secretary, defense agencies and DoD field activities.

He previously served as a senior budget analyst within the office of the defense comptroller and chief financial officer and as acting deputy director for enterprise services in the office of the defense undersecretary for policy.

Kapellas served as an active duty U.S. Air Force colonel for the office of the assistant defense secretary for Asian and Pacific affairs prior to DoD.
