Kevin Shelly of MarkLogic has addressed data management issues in the government during a panel discussion with officials from the Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Army and Customs and Border Protection agency, FedTech Magazine reported Tuesday.

Phil Goldstein writes Shelly, vice president for MarkLogic’s public sector business, explained to his audience at the 360 Degrees of Government Data forum that many organizations use data sources such as images, videos, social media feeds and open-source intelligence.

He said he believes the use of relational database is not enough to help agencies manage unstructured information and that agencies need to change their culture in order to develop methods for management of such data.
