Report: House to Utilize Mobile Device Security App for Members, Staff

1 min read

The House of Representatives will deploy a new software application that will work to secure the mobile devices of lawmakers and their staff through a contract with cybersecurity company Lookout, The Hill reported Wednesday.

Joe Uchill writes John Ramsey, the lower chamber’s chief information security officer, noted in an email to the publication that the technology serves to detect threats such as malicious mobile apps and unsecured Wi-Fi networks.

“The CISO’s decision to extend cybersecurity protections to Congress’ mobile devices is an important step to better protect the sensitive work of Congress,” Rep. Ted Lieu (D-California) said in response to the implementation.

Lookout secured “FedRAMP Ready” status under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program in January for its Mobile Endpoint Security platform and said it was the first mobile security system that received the designation.
