The U.S. Army is preparing to purchase assets needed for the construction of a new battlefield network, Federal News Network said Tuesday.

The service branch's team of network designers has been working to identify technology sets that would undergo fielding in batches every two years.

These technologies would support the development of a network intended to address modern battlefield requirements.

Maj. Gen. Peter Gallagher, who directs the Army’s network cross functional team, told Federal News Network the service branch will field different technologies that correspond to the needs of different units.

Army officials intend to administer a critical design review in April next year to develop Capability Set 21, the effort's first set of technologies.
