SAP Joins Global Plastic Action Partnership to Improve Oceanic Health by 2030; Christian Klein Quoted

SAP has joined the World Economic Forum’s Global Plastic Action Partnership community to reduce the amount of plastic in the ocean and promote a cleaner and healthier environment by 2030, the company announced on Tuesday.

“SAP is committed to a significantly cleaner ocean by 2030,” said Christian Klein,  SAP’s Co-CEO and member of the Executive Board. “We want to achieve this objective together with customers, NGOs, governments and partners and will provide them with the tools, insights and solutions to eliminate waste and maximize resource productivity”

SAP’s Plastic Cloud technology,  which has collected existing and live data from across the plastics supply chain to introduce new ideas for waste reduction,  will allow businesses to find alternatives to single-use plastics, scale design for circularity, invest in materials collection infrastructure and ensure a better consumer experience.

The company has updated the Plastics Cloud to help companies produce environmentally responsible products by providing global insights, giving a better understanding of material that are used and its impact. SAP will focus on local recycling infrastructures and policies.

The research will allow the company to determine a more accurate model of the environmental and business impact from the use of recycled or reusable materials and packaging. Additionally, SAP’s software will help companies adapt to changing regulations, including extended producer responsibility policies.

Plastics Cloud offers links to a secondary materials marketplace based on Ariba Network, which connects packaging and consumer products companies to new sources of recycled plastics and plastic alternatives. The new initiative will also help with the UK digital waste map and other environmental efforts.

“Many of our customers have also made commitments to a cleaner planet. We will support them in achieving their ambitious goals, and together we can accelerate the move to a restorative and regenerative economy,” concluded Klein.
