NASA Gathers Gateway Design Input From Industry Prototypes; Mike Gernhardt Quoted

NASA is evaluating five mockups representative of proposed designs for facilities of Gateway, the space agency's future outpost for manned lunar missions, Reuters reported Thursday. Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Sierra Nevada Corp. and Bigelow Aerospace each submitted outpost prototypes with funds from a $65M allotment.

NASA Funding Two Additional Space Habitat Research Institutes

NASA will allocate up to $15 million for each of the two new Space Technology Research Institutes to aid studies for sustaining human presence on the Moon and Mars, the agency said on Tuesday. The university-led and multidisciplinary “smart habitat” institutes will support other NASA research initiatives and receive funding from the Space Technology Mission Directorate over a five-year period.

Gen. David Goldfein: Air Force Wants Light-Attack Aircraft With Data Sharing Capability

Gen. David Goldfein, chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force, has said the service wants to field a light-attack aircraft with an information networking capability designed to help U.S. and allied forces counter insurgents, the Air Force Times reported Monday. “If I hear one thing from my international air chiefs, it’s ‘we need to figure out how to share information both ways,’” Goldfein told the publication.
