Air Force Completes Initial Flight Test of AGM-183A Hypersonic Weapon

The U.S. Air Force tested a prototype version of a hypersonic weapon aboard the B-52 Stratofortress aircraft on Wednesday at the Edwards Air Force Base. The aircraft held a sensor-only iteration of the AGM-183A Air Launched Rapid Response Weapon to collect external impact, vibration and handling data for the weapon and the B-52 unit, the Air Force said Thursday.

Navy Eyes Late 2019 for Fielding New Laser Weapons

The U.S. Navy plans to bring new high-power laser weapons and a non-lethal laser dazzler to the field later in 2019 to conduct operational testing aboard ships. The project is part of the Navy Laser Family of Systems, USNI News reported Thursday. NLFoS include the Solid State Laser-Technology Maturation system, the High Energy Laser and Integrated Optical-dazzler and Surveillance, and the Optical Dazzling Interdictor, Navy.

Gov’t, Industry Reps Discuss Emerging GPS Threats at Satellite 2019

Government and private sector leaders cited hacking and spoofing as potential threats to the nation’s GPS systems during the 2019 Satellite conference in Washington, D.C., C4ISRnet reported Saturday. James Miller, executive director of the National Space-Based positioning, navigation and timing advisory board, said during a panel discussion that while jamming is a pervasive threat in 2019, spoofing is a more complicated form of hacking that can manipulate and misguide GPS platforms.

Air Force Delivers ‘Unified Platform’ Increment 1 to Cybercom

Department of Defense officials said the U.S. Air Force developed the first iteration of a cyber platform designed to help cyber forces perform mission planning, share information and deliver command-and-control systems to support cyber missions, Fifth Domain reported Monday. A spokesman for the Air Force said the service handed over to U.S. Cyber Command the first increment of the Unified Platform April 9. Increment 1 features capabilities for interoperability and defensive cyber operations.
