DoD Seeking Commercial Services for Enterprise Cloud Efforts

The Department of Defense is implementing a multi-vendor approach to its 2018 Enterprise Cloud Strategy focused on simplifying agency operations, the Defense Information Systems Agency said Wednesday. Kevin Tate, a management analyst at the Office of the DoD Chief Information Officer, said at an AFCEA symposium in Baltimore, Md. that the department seeks to transition away from hardware-dependent infrastructures that lack flexibility and pose problems for equipment maintenance.

Report: White House Plan on Artificial Intelligence, 5G Could be Ready Within Weeks

The White House is expected within the coming weeks to introduce an action plan on 5G technology, artificial intelligence and the National Quantum Initiative Act’s "first deliverables,” The Hill reported Wednesday. An administration official told the publication the Trump administration could release such a plan designed to keep the country’s research-and-development leadership in those tech areas.

Report: US Military Needs Automated Tech, Testing Capabilities for Evolving Cyber Threats

The U.S. Army is seeking information on cyber capabilities based on artificial intelligence and machine learning that can protect systems against sophisticated attacks, Bloomberg reported Monday. Robert Behler, director of operational test and evaluation for the Department of Defense, said in a report that the military's system defenders “need to improve speed and accuracy for processing reported incidents” despite their increasing capacity for thwarting mock attacks from the Red Team.

DoD Industry Day Details Latest AI Developments

The Defense Department held its second AI Industry Day in partnership with the Army Research Lab to discuss the agency’s progress in artificial intelligence and to identify additional partnership opportunities. The DoD said Thursday the event in Silver Spring, Md., gathered more than 600 attendees from 380 industries, academia and government organizations.
