Air Force Delivers ‘Unified Platform’ Increment 1 to Cybercom

Department of Defense officials said the U.S. Air Force developed the first iteration of a cyber platform designed to help cyber forces perform mission planning, share information and deliver command-and-control systems to support cyber missions, Fifth Domain reported Monday. A spokesman for the Air Force said the service handed over to U.S. Cyber Command the first increment of the Unified Platform April 9. Increment 1 features capabilities for interoperability and defensive cyber operations.

Navy on Track to Build New Arleigh Burke DDG-51 Flight III Ships

A top U.S. Navy official said that the service’s Arleigh Burke DDG-51 Flight III program remains on track following the completion of the final anti-missile test with the ship, USNI News reported Friday. Navy program manager Capt. Casey Moton said construction of the ship is on schedule despite past delays due to a series of design changes to integrate the new Raytheon AN/SPY-6 air and missile defense radar.

The U.S. Navy plans to deploy two different hull designs to replace the service’s auxiliary ships that are about to be phased out, USNI News reported Wednesday. Last year, the Navy sought industry input on a common design to succeed its sealift ships, command-and-control ship, hospital ship, aviation logistics ship and submarine tender as part of the Common Hull Auxiliary Multi-Mission Platform program.

Navy Activates 66th Arleigh Burke-Class Destroyer

The U.S. Navy has commissioned DDG 116 or USS Thomas Hudner, the service branch's 66th Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer. The branch said Monday it commissioned the ship on Saturday during a ceremony in Boston where Thomas Hudner III, son of the vessel's namesake, gave a speech.
