Air Force Selects Ellsworth AFB as Potential B-21 Bomber Aircraft Base

The U.S. Air Force plans to designate Ellsworth AF Base in South Dakota as the location of its B-21 Raider bomber aircraft, the service branch said Wednesday. Report: Air Force Eyes March 29 Release of Final Launch Service Procurement Solicitation

An Air Force official said service leaders and Ellen Lord, defense undersecretary for acquisition and sustainment and a 2019 Wash100 Award winner, are scheduled to meet on Thursday to discuss the details of the final request for proposals for the Launch Service Procurement program, SpaceNews reported Saturday. The report said the service issued draft RFPs in December and February with plans to release the final solicitation on Friday, March 29, for the LSP program.

GAO: DoD Should Provide Guidance on User Involvement in Software Dev’t for Space Systems

The Government Accountability Office evaluated four software-intensive space programs of the Department of Defense and found the initiatives are struggling to involve end users in software development efforts. AFRL, Universities Form Additive Printing Partnership for Aircraft, Spacecraft Structures

The U.S. Air Force Laboratory's composites branch partnered with the University of Miami, Louisiana Tech University, University of Arkansas and the University of Texas to highlight the application of 3D printed carbon fiber and epoxy components on air and spacecraft structures. AFRL also performed joint projects with international allies to craft lightweight core structures that can hold the payload through the use of composite printed materials, the Wright Patterson Air Force Base said on Friday.
