Pentagon Report Uncovers Risks in Defense Industrial Base

A Department of Defense report says the number of weapons and ammunition suppliers has dropped despite DoD’s increased spending on such equipment since 2016, Defense News reported Thursday. “Even in the defense services market, which is traditionally considered to have lower barriers to entry, supplier counts are shrinking,” according to DoD’s Industrial Capabilities report released in May.

Navy to Implement Cockpit Air Safety System in Aircraft

The Navy plans to install a cockpit pressure monitoring and warning system on fighter aircraft to reduce physiological events among pilots, USNI News reported Thursday. The service branch intends to implement this new system in over a thousand F/A-18A-D Hornet, F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler aircraft, the report noted.

Navy Expects USS Gerald R. Ford’s Advanced Arresting Gear Ready in 2019

The U.S. Navy aims to begin the expansion of aircrafts that can be launched and recovered from the next-generation aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford by end of 2019, USNI News reported Wednesday. Commander Mehdi Akacem, Ford’s air boss, said the service awaits the launch and recovery bulletins needed to put the ship’s Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System and Advanced Arresting Gear in service.
