Jamie Holcombe, chief information officer of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), said machine learning helps USPTO speed up the process of assigning patent applications to examiners. USPTO is tapping vendors to help perform patent classifications and compare them against the agency’s algorithms. Holcombe said allowing patent examiners to work with vendors allows the agency to further improve the algorithms.

The General Services Administration (GSA) has launched an updated version of Regulations.gov, a federal shared service that allows the public to gain access to regulatory and deregulatory actions and submit comments on rulemakings. The updated site, which has been in the testing phase since July 2019, comes with reCAPTCHA and a new comment application programming interface.

The General Services Administration has released the first and second group of specifications for a unique entity identifier as the agency prepares to transition from the DUNS number to a non-proprietary identifier.
