Denis McDonough, formerly chief of staff to President Obama, has been Senate-confirmed to become secretary of veterans affairs. A Senate meeting on Monday resulted in an 87-7 vote in favor of McDonough. McDonough was the deputy national security adviser during the Obama administration and also served in the former president's transition team.

James Geurts, who most recently served as the assistant secretary of the Navy for research, development and acquisition and was a 2020 Wash100 Award recipient, was designated the service's acting undersecretary. Geurts will also concurrently perform duties as chief operations and management officer of the Department of the Navy (DON), the service said the same day.

Mike Gold, who formerly led NASA’s Office of International and Interagency Relations on an acting basis, has been named the agency's associate administrator for space policy and partnerships, NASA said Wednesday in a notice posted by Space Ref.
