DOT Calling for Autonomous Vehicle Spectrum Allocation

The Transportation Department is seeking to preserve the spectrum allocated for autonomous vehicles to develop the nation’s connected-vehicle infrastructure, FCW reported Thursday. Finch Fulton, deputy assistant secretary for policy at DOT, told the publication that the spectrum should be able to accommodate Dedicated Short Range Communications crucial to ensure traffic safety in vehicle-to-vehicle technology.

Autonomous Solutions performed a two-day site survey to secure information in line with their performance of automated efforts at the Precision Impact Range Area in Edwards Air Force Base. Marine Corps Considering Autonomous Tech for K-Max Cargo Delivery Helicopters

The U.S. Marine Corps is planning to update its Kaman K-Max helicopters to incorporate autonomous capabilities intended to support experimental cargo delivery operations, Flight Global said Thursday. Lt. Gen. Steven Rudder, the Marine Corps’ deputy commandant for aviation, said during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing last month that the service branch plans to modernize its two K-Max aircraft as part of its K-Max autonomy research effort and Marine Air Ground Task Force – Unmanned Expeditionary Capabilities program.

Navy Marks Status of First Unmanned Warship as ‘Classified’

The U.S. Navy has decided to designate information about the status of the service's first unmanned warship as “classified” following initial tests of its first prototype, National Defense reported Monday. In November, ONR tested the prototype Sea Hunter ship outside Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. ONR tested the ship's endurance and range capabilities to establish “operator trust in safe reliable operations,” according to Lt. Cmdr. Tim Gorman, a spokesperson for U.S. Pacific Fleet.
