USAF Hosts Discussion to Address Pilot Oxygen System Issues

The U.S. Air Force joined experts from the U.S. Navy, NASA, industry and academia to discuss on how to address physiological safety issues of T-6 on-board oxygen generating systems. USAF said Wednesday that it hopes to address the matter by accelerating procurement of new technologies, bolstering research efforts and applying research findings to procurement policy. The discussions took place at a conference in late May at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph.

CIO Andrea Norris on NIH’s Core Data Network, Digital Transformation Effort

Andrea Norris, chief information officer at the National Institutes of Health, said her office moves approximately 6 petabytes of data each day through a core computational network, Federal News Network reported Thursday. “Our backbone network is one core because the predominant data that we’re moving through there is scientific by far, but we do have set up in some cases, we architect virtual local networks for specialized scientific instrumentation,” Norris said on the network’s Federal Monthly Insights - Digital Transformation.

DOE Allots Funds for AI Research Projects

The Department of Energy is investing $20 million in research and development projects to apply artificial intelligence to energy science and grid management. DOE said Wednesday. Eight projects have been identified that would receive a combined amount of almost $7 million to study on AI, big data and machine learning applications in grid resiliency. These projects are funded under DOE's Office of Electricity.
