Senate Subcommittee Includes F-35, Battleship Funds in $695B FY 2020 Defense Bill Markup

The Senate Appropriations defense subcommittee on Tuesday approved a bill through legislative markup to authorize $694.9B in defense spending for fiscal year 2020, The Hill reported. The defense policy bill includes a base budget of $622.5B, $70.7B in overseas contingency operations funds and $1.7B in emergency funds.

Senate OKs $2.7T Budget Deal With Defense Spending Increase Over Two Years

The Senate voted 67-28 to pass a two-year budget deal to increase defense spending by approximately $45B, Defense News reported Thursday. The $2.7T deal would raise defense funding from spending levels of $716B to $738B in 2020 to $740B in 2021. It also includes an agreement to exclude “poison pill” riders that limit the administration’s ability to direct funds toward the border wall project.

Report: DoD to Reprogram $1.5B in Funds for Border Wall

The Department of Defense is redirecting approximately $1.5 billion in funds allocated for several defense programs toward the Trump administration’s plan to construct 80 additional miles of border wall, The Washington Post reported Sunday. The funds will come from the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile and surveillance plane program called Airborne Warning and Control System, according to a DoD document obtained by the Post.
