OMB: Trump OKs Continuing Resolution to Reopen Government

The Office of Management and Budget has issued a memo to notify federal agencies about the reopening of the government after President Donald Trump signed a continuing resolution that would fund the government through Feb. 15. “All employees who were on furlough due to the absence of appropriations may now return to work,” according to the Friday memo signed by OMB Acting Director Russell Vought.

President Donald Trump has said he may pursue a national emergency to fund the construction of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border should negotiations over spending fail, Federal Times reported Wednesday. “I think we might work a deal and if we don’t, I may go that route. House Bets to End Govt Shutdown Without Border Wall Funding

House Democrats passed two bills this week in a bid to end the partial government shutdown without funding President Trump’s border wall, New York Post reported Thursday. One bill would provide temporary budgeting to eight of the nine closed agencies until September, while another would fund the Department of Homeland Security until Feb. 8. However, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi noted the chamber will not support construction of Trump’s wall.
