Sens. John Thune, Brian Schatz Reintroduce Small Cell Deployment Act

Sens. John Thune, R-S.D., and Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, are reintroducing legislation to speed up infrastructure assessments for small cell network access ahead of the planned 5G rollout. Thune’s office said in a press release published Monday that the "Streamlining the Rapid Evolution And Modernization of Leading-edge Infrastructure Necessary to Enhance Small Cell Deployment Act" revises the Communications Act of 1934 to include emerging requirements and better address challenges faced by small municipalities with less than 50,000 residents.

Lawmakers Reintroduce Federal AI Legislation

A bipartisan group of lawmakers reintroduced the Artificial Intelligence in Government Act to provide technical expertise throughout agencies and develop federal AI policy. The office of Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, said in a statement released Wednesday that Portman as well as Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, Cory Gardner, R-Colo., and Kamala Harris, D-Calif., seek to improve federal agencies’ implementation of AI to provide better benefits to the general public.

Trump May Opt for Emergency Declaration to Fund Border Wall

President Donald Trump has said he may pursue a national emergency to fund the construction of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border should negotiations over spending fail, Federal Times reported Wednesday. “I think we might work a deal and if we don’t, I may go that route. I have the absolute right to do national emergency if I want,” he told reporters Wednesday at the White House.
