Congress Modernization Select Committee OKs 40 Capacity Improvement, Budget Reform Recommendations

The Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress has passed 40 recommendations to help the legislative branch reform the appropriations process, improve congressional capacity and reclaim its responsibilities under Article One of the Constitution. The vote on the fifth and final package brings the amount of approved recommendations by the committee to 90.

Army Applications Lab Developing Automated Tech for Coding, Budgeting Operations

The U.S. Army’s has created an innovation unit to work on two projects seeking to implement automated technology to simplify battlefield technical operations and quicken budgeting activities, FCW reported Saturday. Gen. John Murray, head of the Army Futures Command, announced after a House Armed Services Subcommittee hearing that the Army Applications Laboratory is developing capabilities that will enable warfighters to code on the field to fix communications systems.

FCC Issues Final Rule on CIO’s IT Responsibilities

The Federal Communications Commission introduced a final rule to direct the agency’s chief information officer to play a “significant role” in developing FCC’s information technology capabilities. The FCC CIO will play a bigger role in IT oversight, management and governance; decision-making process for budgeting, multiyear and annual planning, programming and reports related to IT; and recruitment of IT personnel, according to the document.
