William Lietzau to Lead Defense Counterintelligence Security Agency

William "Bill" Lietzau, who leads the Department of Defense's Personnel Vetting Transformation Office, has been appointed to serve as director of the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency. Lietzau will succeed Charles Phalen who has been filling the role on an acting basis since 2019, DoD said Monday.

Charles Phalen, director of the National Background Investigations Bureau, said NBIB reduced the security clearance backlog to 424,000, down from 725,000 in April 2018, Federal News Network reported Monday.
