Christopher Krebs: CISA’s Volunteer Border Deployment Won’t Impact Agency Operations

Christopher Krebs, director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency and 2019 Wash100 awardee, said CISA’s volunteer border patrol work will not affect operations during a Georgetown University Law Center conference, Cyberscoop reported Wednesday. Ten of the Department of Homeland Security agency’s almost 3,500 employees have volunteered for temporary deployment at the southern border and an additional 10 will join the group.

Lawmakers Fear China-Backed Huawei May Control 5G

Senators expressed concerns that Huawei’s plan to offer 5G network equipment to U.S. allies could put international government and military communications at risk of disruptions, Fifth Domain reported Tuesday. Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee said during a recent hearing that allowing the China-backed company to provide and manage the technology internationally may affect global communications, intelligence sharing and military operations.

CISA Seeking More Funds to Boost Critical Infrastructure Security

Christopher Krebs, director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and 2019 Wash100 Award winner, said DHS plans to unveil a new personnel system in late 2019 to provide agency officials “capabilities to hire people based on their skill sets, not what’s on a piece of paper,” Nextgov reported Thursday. “I need a different set of hiring authorities and that’s part of what we’re doing,” Krebs said Thursday during the Forcepoint Cybersecurity Leadership Forum.

Cristopher Krebs, director of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and 2019 Wash100 Award winner, said during a House testimony that CISA will address electoral security through its Protect 2020 effort, The Hill reported Wednesday. Krebs said in his testimony before the House Appropriations Committee's subcommittee that the project revolves around identifying cybersecurity priorities, fortifying election systems and addressing auditing issues to assist state and local officials ahead of the presidential election.
