Bernard del Rosario, a chief engineer for the Defense Information Systems Agency, said at an AFCEA symposium in Maryland that the Secure Cloud Computing Architecture helps accelerate the "authority to operate" process, DISA said Wednesday. The agency's SCCA platform enables the Department of Defense’s partner entities to optimize security and management features to meet requirements for migrating workloads to the cloud.

Air Force Looks to Use Fast-Track ATO to Accelerate Cloud Migration

The U.S. Air Force expects the new streamlined process to secure the authorization to operate certification will allow the service to move up to 100 applications to the cloud in 2019, FCW reported Friday. Bill Marion, deputy chief information officer of Air Force, said the Fast-Track ATO pilot announced that it only takes six to 18 months to obtain a certification in March.

Caroline Bean: DoD’s milCloud 2.0 Migration Effort Open to Industry Support

Caroline Bean, the Defense Information Systems Agency’s infrastructure branch chief, said that companies seeking collaborations with the Department of Defense may want to support the milCloud 2.0 effort, Government CIO Media reported Wednesday. Bean, also the program manager for milCloud 2.0, noted that government partners should consider including cloud migration plans in contract scopes to develop future cloud strategies during General Dynamics Information Technology’s Emerge 2019 event.

James Gfrerer: VA Plans to Complete Partial Cloud Migration by 2024

James Gfrerer, the Department of Veterans Affairs chief information officer, said during the recent ACT-IAC Health Innovation Summit that the department intends to migrate 350 applications to the cloud by 2024, Fedscoop reported Wednesday. Gfrerer noted that the number of current and new applications to move to a cloud environment comprises half of the department’s portfolio.

GSA Updates Special Item Number for Cloud Services on IT Schedule 70

The General Services Administration revised a special item number on IT Schedule 70 to provide federal agencies access to information technology professional services related to cloud adoption and management. The updated Cloud SIN 132-40 includes labor categories and services associated with cloud-related work such as assessment of cloud platforms, workload refactoring, migration of legacy systems to the cloud, DevOps and development of cloud-based applications, GSA said Monday.

Report: Pentagon Plans to Migrate 80% of Apps to JEDI Cloud

The Defense Department has announced plans to move up to 80 percent of its applications to the proposed Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure cloud platform, Federal News Network reported Monday. DoD’s cloud migration goal was revealed after the Government Accountability Office issued its ruling on a protest filed by Oracle over the solicitation for the potential $10B JEDI cloud procurement contract.
