Gen. David Goldfein: Air Force Hypersonic Weapon Program to Reach IOC in 2020

General David Goldfein, Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, discussed the hypersonic weapons program and sixth-generation combat aircraft in an interview Friday with National Defense Magazine. According to Gen. Goldfein, the Air Force is making progress on fielding an operational hypersonic weapon, a weapon that moves at five times the speed of sound, because of the “804 authorities,” an interim approach approved by the U.S. Congress which supports rapid prototyping and rapid fielding of technology within five years of approval.

Hanscom Air Force Base Unveils Prototype Combat Comms Tech

The Hanscom Air Force Base has started developing a prototype combat tool to allow voice, chat, video, command and control functions for partner countries. Conceptualized by Gen. David Goldfein, the Airborne Extensible Relay Over-Horizon Network will connect friendly units and deliver real-time location data and enemy movement to other allied forces, the U.S. Air Force said Thursday. AERONet has three different nodes that covers communications functions for airborne, ground and command teams.

Gen. David Goldfein, U.S. Air Force chief of staff, gathered leaders from other countries to discuss various space issues, Space News reported Saturday. Leaders from Australia, Canada, Italy, Germany, Japan, the U.K. and other nations attended the first conference of international air chiefs that took place at a Colorado-based facility.

Heather Wilson on Air Force’s Efforts to Maintain US Dominance in Space

Air Force Secretary and 2019 Wash100 Award winner Heather Wilson said the service adopts a comprehensive approach based on “a clear-eyed assessment of the world as it is” to maintain the country’s superiority in space, the Air Force reported Tuesday. David Goldfein: DoD Requesting $135M for ‘Penetrating’ Warfighting Tech

U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Goldfein said at a recent event in Washington, D.C. that the Department of Defense will request $135B for warfighting capabilities intended to penetrate, National Defense reported Tuesday. The DoD’s fiscal year 2020 budget request will include stealth aircrafts like the F-35 joint strike fighter and other technologies intended to infiltrate the defense systems of adversaries.

USAF Unifies IT, Intelligence, Cyber Into One HQ Office

The U.S. Air Force began reorganizing and unifying its headquarters' information technology, cyber and intelligence operations, Federal News Network reported Wednesday. USAF's new approach would combine the three technical areas into one organization, merging the branch's deputy chief of staff offices for information dominance and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
