Sen. Warner Reintroduces Bill to Boost National Security

Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., re-introduced a bill aiming to improve U.S. national security through a modernized security clearance system and a new workforce to handle national security and public safety missions. The Modernizing the Trusted Workforce for the 21st Century Act would also help the government reduce its background investigation backlog, Warner said in a statement released Friday. Eric Schmidt, Eric Horvitz Named to Artificial Intelligence Commission

The House Armed Services Committee has named Eric Schmidt, technical adviser to Alphabet’s board; and Eric Horvitz, director of Microsoft Labs; to the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence. The commission was formed through the fiscal 2019 National Defense Authorization Act to assess developments in AI, machine learning and related technologies as well as their implications for national security, the committee said Wednesday.
