Mike Pence: ‘Space Force’ Aims to Address ‘Fragmented Responsibilities’ Over National Security Programs

Vice President Mike Pence has said the establishment of a “space force” as the sixth military branch seeks to address the “lack of centralized leadership and accountability” over programs that aim to promote national security in space. Pence said Tuesday at the National Space Council’s fourth meeting at the National Defense University that the council would vote on six recommendations for the proposed roadmap to form the new service, which he says would help sort out the "fragmented responsibilities" over national security space initiatives.

Trump Issues New Strategy for Counterterrorism

President Trump has released a new strategy meant to protect the U.S. from evolving terrorist threats.

The White House said Thursday the National Strategy for Counterterrorism centers on identifying terrorism sources, separating terrorists from their support system, modernizing American counterterrorism tools and preventing extremist radicalization and recruitment, among other things.

The Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology Directorate has launched a publicly available dashboard consisting of over 1,500 research entries on terrorism and extremism prevention. The move is meant to support efforts seeking to counter terrorism across many disciplines such as the social and behavioral science, the department said Friday.
