Air Force Completes Initial Flight Test of AGM-183A Hypersonic Weapon

The U.S. Air Force tested a prototype version of a hypersonic weapon aboard the B-52 Stratofortress aircraft on Wednesday at the Edwards Air Force Base. The aircraft held a sensor-only iteration of the AGM-183A Air Launched Rapid Response Weapon to collect external impact, vibration and handling data for the weapon and the B-52 unit, the Air Force said Thursday.

NIST Demos Experimental Atomic Clock

The National Institute of Standards and Technology tested a miniature atomic clock designed to tick at optical frequencies. The experimental clock consists of rubidium atoms placed in a vapor cell and two frequency combs that function to link the ticks to low microwave frequencies, NIST said Friday.

NASA Conducts CubeSat Optical Comms Link Experiment

NASA carried out a laser communications pointing test through two deployed CubeSats from space. The satellites recorded a flash of light from a laser communications platform aboard the Optical Communications and Sensor Demonstration spacecraft with a short-wavelength infrared camera within the CubeSat Multispectral Observation System payload, the agency said Wednesday.

Air Force Team Demos KC-135 Refuel Drone on F-35 Aircraft

A U.S. Air Force-led team concluded tests on a drone refueling system designed to work with F-35 aircraft systems. The F-35 Lightning II program team launched an F-35B aircraft to the Edwards Air Force Base along with the KC-135 Stratotanker system to highlight the tanker's capability to refuel at night operations, USAF said Friday.
