AFRL Tests Collaborative Semi-Autonomous Bombs

Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), on Dec. 15 at Eglin AF Base, test-flew a new technology designed to enable semi-autonomous collaboration between multiple weapon units. An F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft carried then dropped two Collaborative Small Diameter Bombs that communicated with one another to detect targets, the U.S. Air Force said Thursday.

Army Wraps Up Robotic Combat Vehicle Demo


The U.S. Army tested surrogate robotic combat vehicles (RCV) during a soldier operational experiment activity to validate the capabilities an RCV may bring to a rifle platoon. Participants fielded four Project Origin vehicles to carry out defense, contact and attack maneuvers during the month-long exercise, the service branch said on Monday.

Northrop Grumman Corporation has successfully demonstrated an open mission systems (OMS) compliant active electronically scanned array (AESA) sensor in recent ground and multiple flight demonstrations. “These demonstrations continue to act as pathfinders to enable further OMS opportunities,” said Paul Kalafos, vice president, surveillance and electromagnetic maneuver warfare, Northrop Grumman.

NAVWAR Demos TIPPERS Wireless Tracking System


The Naval Information Warfare Systems Command tested a wireless tracking technology that aims to help the U.S. Navy decrease the spread of COVID-19 during the Trident Warrior 2020 event. The Navy plans to demonstrate the system aboard a vessel and carry out experimental efforts through October.
