DHS S&T to Continue Feedback Period on Mobile Radio Testing Requirements

The Department of Homeland Security's science and technology directorate is extending the 30-day comment period for a planned set of testing standards that will allow interoperability for digital land mobile radio systems and standardized LMR components. The agency said Thursday that it will accept comments on a draft compliance bulletin under the Project 25 Compliance Assessment Program through March 31.

New Funding Bill Denies DHS Plan to Move $90M Cyber Research Funding to New Agency

Lawmakers denied a proposal to move nearly $90M in funding for cybersecurity research to the newly established Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security agency within the Department of Homeland Security, FCW reported Tuesday. Congress passed a new funding bill that would retain the budget at the Science and Technology Directorate at DHS.

DHS S&T Competition Seeks New Escape Respirators

The Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology Directorate is inviting scientists to take part in a competition seeking respirators to protect individuals from aerosolized chemical, biological and radiological threats. Participants of the $250K Escape Respirator Challenge would submit concepts for the technology that addresses the limits of existing escape hoods, DHS said Thursday.

DHS S&T Taps Two Organizations for Data Privacy R&D Effort

The Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate awarded two organizations a total of $1.1M to support the Data Privacy research and development project, DHS said Thursday. The Data Privacy effort aims to mitigate privacy risks on critical data transmitted through mobile computing, connected sensor platforms, automated systems and other digital services.
