Report: Pete Hoekstra Emerges as Top Contender for Director of National Intelligence

Pete Hoekstra, the U.S. ambassador to the Netherlands, has emerged as the top candidate for the director of national intelligence position, The Hill reported Sunday. President Trump commended Hoekstra’s work in the Netherlands and his plans to collaborate with Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and other panel members to find a successor to the retiring DNI and 2019 Wash100 Award winner Dan Coats.

ODNI Creates Tech Innovation Unit

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence has created a new unit focused on the deployment of innovative technologies to the 17 intelligence community agencies as well as government entities. ODNI said on Wednesday that the Lateral Innovation division operates under the Transformation and Innovation Office within the agency’s Strategy and Engagement Component.

Trump Directs Intell Community Cooperation on 2016 Election Investigation

President Trump is calling on the intelligence community to “quickly and fully cooperate” with investigations on alleged surveillance operations during the 2016 presidential elections, the White House said Thursday. Trump is directing the community to comply with the attorney general, who is tasked with examining potential cases of election-related interference and will have full and complete authority to declassify information relevant to the investigation.
