Eric Hysen: DHS Seeks TMF Funding for Four IT Modernization Projects

The board overseeing the $1 billion Technology Modernization Fund (TMF) has started assessing just under 100 proposals from agencies, including four proposals from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Hysen said the department’s goal is to focus on systems that will help facilitate the delivery of services to citizens and he expects DHS to continue to file TMF applications in the coming months.

Brian Campo: DHS to Determine Most Suitable Uses of Different AI Applications

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will establish a new office dedicated to applying data across DHS operations. DHS's future Office of the Chief Data Officer will oversee the department's data activities in eight areas including cybersecurity, law enforcement and immigration. Carlene Ileto, acting DHS CDO, is working to organize a team of executives who will work in alignment with the future office's focus areas.

Report: White House Eyes Eric Hysen for DHS CIO Role

The White House is expected to name Eric Hysen, former executive director of the Department of Homeland Security’s digital service, as chief information officer at DHS in the coming weeks. Hysen is expected to oversee data center consolidation, cloud and other information technology modernization efforts at DHS, which has an IT budget of $7.3 billion in fiscal year 2021.
