Alion Science and Technology announced on Thursday that the company has received a five-year, $39 million task order to provide Prototyping and Experimentation Research, Development, Engineering, Technical Analysis, and Solutions for the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E)). Alion received this task order under the Department of Defense Information Analysis Center's (DoD IAC) multiple-award contract (MAC) vehicle.

John Murray, head of Army Futures Command (AFC) and a two-time Wash100 Award recipient, said the U.S. military should resist the urge to get in a “rush for lockdown requirements” for the Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) concept. “I still believe that the best solutions never come from the top down,” Murray said. “All four services coming together from the ground up, working solutions together in actual experimentation, will greatly inform and enhance whatever we end up with.”

Army Releases Updated Future Fighting Concept

The U.S. Army has launched the latest iteration of its future operating concept that presents potential measures to counter adversaries’ layered stand-off. The service said Thursday “The U.S. Army in Multi-Domain Operations 2028," also known as MDO Concept 1.5, aligns with interagency efforts and offers recommendations based on experimentation.
