F-35 JPO Seeks 23 Percent Drop in Flight-Hour Costs by 2024

The F-35 Joint Program Office hopes to see a 23 percent decrease in flight-hour costs for the F-35A aircraft variant from $44,000 to $34,000 by 2024, Air Force Magazine reported Thursday. Vice Adm. Mat Winter, head of the F-35 JPO, testified before members of the House Armed Services tactical air and land forces subcommittee that the office seeks to achieve a 26 percent drop from $34,000 to $25,000 for the U.S. Air Force variant after five years.

F-35 Expected to Receive 80% Mission Capability Rate by 2020

The Department of Defense’s entire fleet of F-35 Lightning II fighter aircraft is on track to receive an 80 percent mission capability rate by September 2020, Flight Global reported Friday. U.S. Navy Vice Adm. Mathias Winter, executive officer of the F-35 Joint Program Office, testified before the House Armed Services Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee on Thursday that F-35 combat units under the U.S. Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps as well as international allies are slated to achieve the 80 percent mark by September of this year.

Report: Over 80% of F-35s Return to Flight After Fuel Tube Inspection

The F-35 joint program office has announced that more than 80 percent of Lockheed Martin-built fighter jets operating in the U.S. and overseas are now approved to recommence flight following the completion of a fuel line inspection, USNI News reported Monday. The F-35 JPO grounded the fighter aircraft on Thursday to facilitate the inspection of a fuel tube within the jet’s engine in response to an ongoing investigation into an F-35B crash that occurred on Sept. 28 near Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort in South Carolina.
