Alan Thomas: GSA to Extend Legacy Telecom Contracts to Facilitate Transition to $50B EIS Vehicle

Alan Thomas, commissioner of the General Services Administration’s Federal Acquisition Service, has said GSA will extend for up to three years its existing contracts for telecommunications services to give agencies enough time to transition to the potential 15-year, $50B Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions contract. Thomas wrote in a blog post published Thursday that the extended legacy contracts such as Networx, local service agreements and WITS will have a one-year base term and two option years.

GSA Picks Dept of Housing and Urban Dev’t for IT Centers of Excellence Program; Emily Murphy Quoted

The General Services Administration has partnered with the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help HUD modernize its information technology systems through the Centers of Excellence program. The technology transformation services at GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service will help HUD assess IT challenges and requirements through a discovery sprint and leverage the CoE model to support IT modernization efforts, GSA said Tuesday.

GSA’s Alan Thomas on Technology Modernization Fund, EIS Contract

Alan Thomas, commissioner of the General Services Administration’s Federal Acquisition Service, told Federal News Radio in an interview published Thursday about the factors he looks for in proposals for the next round of awards under the Technology Modernization Fund. “I’m always focused on if someone will spend money with an industry partner, I’m looking at what vehicle are they using, is it shovel ready, and I tend to be a little bit of stickler on payback,” he told the station’s Ask the CIO program.

Alan Thomas, commissioner of the General Services Administration’s Federal Acquisition Service, has said the board that oversees the Technology Modernization Fund plans to award the next round of funding for information technology upgrades at agencies amid uncertainty in budget allocation for TMF in fiscal 2019, Federal Times reported Thursday. “We did not take into account whether we were going to get another tranche of money in there,” Thomas, a member of the Technology Modernization Board, said Thursday at an Association for Federal Information Resource Management event.

The General Services Administration is shutting down its reverse auction platform after five years of service, due to financial constraints, Federal News Radio reported Monday. Erv Koehler, acting deputy commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service, wrote to GSA customers and partners that the agency will shut down the platform as it was no longer viable to continue.
