The U.S. Navy has laid the keel of a future guided-missile destroyer in Maine, signifying the start of the ship's construction. Marty Fish, a welder at BIW, helped Barnum sign the keel plate, which now also features the initials of Hill as the ship sponsor. BIW also produces the Carl M. Levin, Louis H. Wilson Jr., Patrick Gallagher and John Basilone destroyers.

Navy Expects Lead Zumwalt Ship Delivery in September

The U.S. Navy will accept the lead ship of its Zumwalt destroyer program before the end of 2019 but testing will continue to enhance the ship’s combat capability, USNI News reported Tuesday.
