52 F-35s Gather in Air Force’s Elephant Walk Demonstration

The U.S. Air Force held a long-planned "elephant walk" exercise with 52 F-35A aircraft from Hill Air Force Base to demonstrate power, Popular Mechanics reported Tuesday. The exercise used all combat-ready F-35A fighter bombers within the service branch's fleet, and may have incurred a total of $4.5M in operational expenses, the report noted.

The U.S. Air Force's 75th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Hill AF Base has bought a simulation platform designed to help military and civilian airmen practice operating multiple vehicles. USAF said Monday the $140K simulator features three 55-inch screens and over 150 driving scenarios for nearly 30 vehicles.

DoD Seeks Industry Feedback on 5G Tech Dev’t Projects

The Department of Defense is asking industry for ideas to develop 5G technology platforms for demonstration  at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany in Georgia and Hill Air Force Base in Utah. DoD said Monday it will collect input through Dec. 16 to help the department finalize prototype solicitations related to the experimentation and testing of the next-generation wireless technology.

Hill AFB DOE-Recognized DOE for Energy Efficiency Efforts

The Department of Energy has recognized Hill Air Force Base for the installation's ongoing energy savings effort that began in 2018. The base received DOE's 2019 Federal Energy and Water Management Award that honors efforts of significance in energy efficiency, water conservation and renewable energy use, the U.S. Air Force said Sunday.

The U.S. Air Force is slated to open its fourth Advanced Technology and Training Center along the Wasatch mountain range near Hill AF base in Utah. The service branch said Thursday that ATTC-Wasatch will house training and qualification activities for new technologies “without interrupting actual aircraft maintenance production.”

Air Force Research Laboratory leads the Maturation of Advanced Manufacturing for Low Cost Sustainment program to sustain older aircraft via advanced manufacturing and digital technologies, the service branch said Thursday.
