Advisory Board Announces Members of Social Security IT Modernization Review Panel

The Social Security Advisory Board has formed an independent panel of experts to assess Social Security’s efforts to update its information technology infrastructure. Alan Balutis, a distinguished fellow and senior director of Cisco Systems’ business solutions group for the North American public sector, will chair the 2019-2020 IT Systems Expert Panel, the board said.

Researcher Calls for Appointment of Chief Data Officers at Federal Agencies

Jane Wiseman, a Senior Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation, has called on the heads of federal agencies to appoint a chief data officer or establish a data management position at their respective departments. Wiseman made the recommendation in a recently released report, noting the inability of government agencies to leverage data in decision-making due to sheer volume.
